Welcome to UC Berkeley's nationally recognized living-learning community, the UNITY Theme Program. Our residential community is one of seven theme programs that allows you to make the most of a world-class education and campus experience while exploring your own identity and those of others, develop vital leadership skills in your first year on campus, and engage in activism rooted in social justice. UNITY has two have two residence life programs that allow you to engage in a deep study of sexual and gender diversity.
Most students live in our House program, which provides a truly unique experience. However to accommodate more students in our program, we accept many affiliated students after the school year begins. These students may have been unaware our our theme program when applying for housing but have an opportunity to join in the experience from other residential communities on campus.
Both programs start with a 6-week series of events developed intentionally to highlight core values of our community and help students connect with friends, mentors, and guides. Our residence halls provide many opportunities for you to create lifelong friendships, build leadership skills, work, play, and get academic support to keep you on the road to graduation and success. Living in one of our residential programs will be one of the most rewarding opportunities you will have at Berkeley. It will enhance your academic experience by fostering a culture of care through the principles of inclusion, diversity, and social justice. You will be supported and challenged to experience more and accomplish more so you can become the leaders who will transform yourselves, the nation, and the world.
